Half Pans contain a wide range of ingredients. Some may contain clays and plant and/or mineral additives to create a grainy texture. Some may contain micas that create a glimmery apperance. Other may contain a rich mixture of fine pigments and/or dyes. Depending on the combination of these ingredients, the results may vary. But regardless of the mixture, all half pans should be used following these steps:
Add a bead of water to your pan, and allow paint to soften a bit.
Once paint appears to soften, move a bit of the paint to a mixing tray, and add more water to create some transparency.
Use this dilluted mixture on a watercolor paper of your choice to create a nice soft base layer.
Continue the process until you are happy with the coverage.
